Our Approach
We focus on building stability before crises force change.
Rather than reacting to conflict after positions harden and damage is done, we work to strengthen the systems, leadership capacity, and communication practices that prevent escalation in the first place. Healthy member-based organizations are not conflict-free. They are equipped to handle disagreement without fragmentation.
With our approach, clients report:
- Faster conflict resolution
- Fewer escalations and formal complaints
- Increased member trust in leadership
- Reduced legal risk
- Greater leadership confidence handling difficult issues
Early resolution
We address concerns at the earliest signs of tension to prevent escalation, protect relationships, and avoid unnecessary public or legal consequences.
Psychological safety and fairness
We create structured, impartial processes that allow concerns to be raised respectfully while reinforcing trust in leadership and outcomes.
Governance integrity
We ensure bylaws, policies, and board roles are applied consistently to support defensible decisions and organizational credibility.
Risk reduction
We facilitate identifying and mitigating legal, financial, and reputational exposure before conflict becomes liability.
Long-term conflict resilience
We strengthen systems and leadership capacity so future disputes can be managed confidently, constructively, and without disruption.

Bathabile K.S. Mthombeni, J.D., M.S.LOD
(She/Her/Hers)
Bathabile Mthombeni is the Founder and Principal of Untangled Resolutions, where she advises associations, cooperatives, employee-owned companies, and community organizations on the design and implementation of conflict and complaint management systems. Trained in sociology at Princeton University and in law at Columbia Law School, she brings both structural insight and legal fluency to governance-sensitive environments. Her work focuses on helping leadership build fair, defensible, and trusted processes that protect institutional integrity while strengthening member and stakeholder confidence.
Organizations engage her when internal handling of conflict may create exposure, division, or loss of trust. She integrates independent mediation, complaint system architecture, and equity-centered process design to help leaders stabilize immediate disputes while building durable infrastructure for the future. Her approach is steady, confidential, and governance-aware — designed not only to manage conflict, but to strengthen institutional resilience over time.
With more than two decades of experience across litigation practice, public-sector mediation, complex community conflicts, and organizational ombuds work, she understands how quickly interpersonal disputes can become governance, reputational, and operational risk. Her background includes mediation with the New York City Civilian Complaint Review Board, facilitation during the Occupy Wall Street movement, and service as an organizational ombuds supporting institutional leaders navigating sensitive matters. This combination of legal training, systems thinking, and on-the-ground conflict practice allows her to work effectively with boards, executives, counsel, and diverse stakeholder groups in high-stakes environments.
Her background includes:
- JD, Columbia Law School
- MS in Leadership and Organizational Development, University of Texas at Dallas
- ICF Accredited University Certification in Coaching
- AB in Sociology, Princeton University
Bathabile’s work integrates legal process knowledge, negotiation dynamics, and evidence-based emotional regulation strategies. This combination allows her to support clients in high-conflict situations where both emotional stability and strategic thinking are essential.
You’re not just buying mediation.
You’re building institutional stability.
