My name is Bathabile Mthombeni. I am a skilled coach, mediator, and Ombudsperson. For two decades I have helped my clients and visitors discuss the most difficult issues in their lives.

Join me for dinner to get answers to issues that really bother you but you don’t know who to ask:

What’s wrong with affirmative action?

What does being “woke” really mean?

What is racism?

Why can’t we all just get along?

Bathabile K. S. Mthombeni

(She/Her/Hers)

Bathabile has never met a stranger.

Bathabile K.S. Mthombeni, J.D, M.S.LOD, PCC is the University Ombudsman for Binghamton University. She is also a coach and mediator, and the founder of Untangled Resolutions. She loves talking with people and her talent is helping individuals and groups to uncover what lives beneath their most treasured values and beliefs

For as long as she can remember, Bathabile has been fascinated by how societies work and by how power is distributed in society. As a child born under Apartheid in South Africa she learned very early on that, often, differences are made between people on the basis of their identities and different amounts of value are attributed to people on the basis of those differences. Bathabile’s passion is facilitating often challenging conversations about difference, identity, power, and equity in society.

Bathabile founded Untangled Resolutions in 2010. Her original intent was to bring mediation to the masses via a podcast. Today, Untangled Resolutions provides coaching and dialogue facilitation about race primarily to White members of leadership teams and DEIB committees. Untangled Resolutions also provides leadership coaching, mediation, external ombuds services, conference ombuds services, conflict management workshops, and conflict management systems design services.

As an organizational development (OD) practitioner, Bathabile helps organizations to take their DEIB statements from aspiration to action. As a mediator and coach Bathabile is passionate about helping people to learn how to communicate better, resolve their differences, and find the highest expression of their best selves.

Bathabile earned an A.B. in Sociology, cum laude, from Princeton University, a J.D. from Columbia Law School, and a graduate coaching certificate and M.S. in Leadership and Organizational Development from the Naveen Jindal School of Management at the University of Texas at Dallas. She holds a PCC level certification from the International Coach Federation.

She is a dedicated human companion to five dogs and two cats. She is an avid yarn crafter and a singer/songwriter/guitarist who has performed on New York City’s subway platforms and once lived in a tent.
